Water Wells: Bringing Clean Water to Thar & Beyond
In many regions of Pakistan—especially in arid districts like Thar—access to safe, clean drinking water remains a severe problem. People often travel several kilometers each day under harsh conditions just to fetch water, which is frequently contaminated or insufficient. This scarcity affects not only human health—leading to dehydration, waterborne diseases, and poor sanitation—but also local livelihoods, as animals and crops suffer alongside the people. The burden is most severe for women and children, who often bear the responsibility of collecting water for their households.
Customs Health Care Society (CHCS) has launched a major initiative to address this crisis by constructing water wells in water-scarce villages. To date, CHCS has dug over 2,000 drinking water wells in Tharparkar alone. These wells bring potable water closer to homes, reduce the time and risk involved in water collection, and help protect the health of thousands of families—humans and animals alike. The society is also working on projects that provide clean water for both domestic use and small-scale agriculture, helping villages become more resilient and self-sufficient.
