Care and Welfare Activities of Customs Health Care Society (CHCS) in the Earthquake Affected Areas of Chitral and Shangla 

(26TH OCTOBER TO UPDATE)

The update on relief activities of CHCS in the earthquake affected areas with effect from 26th October to update is given as under:-

  • Distribution of food supplies among 1,000 families of earthquake affectees in Chitral and Shangla.
  • Distribution of 600 quilts and 2,000 jackets and as many clothes among the affectees in Chitral and Shangla.
  • Distribution of 2,000 gift packs among the children.
  • Conduct of several medical and relief camps in the affected areas.
  • Checkup and treatment of 3,000 patients including injured and affected with acute and chronic diseases.
  • Distribution of 100 family size tents and 300 Tarpaulins among the affectees in Chitral and Shangla.
  • Start of Apna Ghar Housing Project in the affected areas in which construction of Houses has been started.
  • Provision of corrugated steel sheets for the completion of houses in Chitral.

Update on Care and Welfare Activities of Customs Health Care Society for Drought-Stricken Populatio of Thar

(MARCH 2014 TO DECEMBER 2015)

In the wake of shortage / scarcity of water, the CHCS has embarked upon the work of digging of new wells in the drought hit areas. The 150 wells / hand pumps so far completed are providing clean drinking water to thousands of people as well as animals of Thar on daily basis.

The details of medical and relief work so far undertaken by the teams of CHCS in drought hit areas of Tharparkar is given as under:-

  • Completion of 100 wells of sweet, hygienic and fresh water in different Goths of Thar. The work on 20 wells is in progress.
  • Establishment of four clinics which are providing medical help on regular basis.
  • Establishment of two Sewing and Stiching Centers for women in Diplo and Navankot, Mitthi in order to provide them livelihood.
  • Distribution of Cash.
  • Treatment of 200,000 patients since March 2014 in drought stricken areas of Tharparkar.
  • Continued supply and Distribution of Relief goods including ration worth millions of rupees.
  • Installation of deep bore 10 hand pumps.
  • Customs Health Care Society Primary School, Tharparkar.

The relief work by the Customs Health Care Society (CHCS) for the drought stricken people of Thar will Insha Allah is still continuing without any break.

Care And Welfare Of Affectees Of Attababad Lake, Hunza

The medical teams of Customs Health Care Society reached Gilgit and Hunza during the moths of May and June 2010, conducted Medical Camps in affected areas of Shiskat, Gilmit, Passu, Hussaini for IDPS, examined and treated more that 15000 patients. Relief goods worth 5 million were also distributed. The Welfare teams of the Society remained in the affected areas till July 2010 and helped the population by all means. Uniform and stationery items were also provided to the schools established for the IDPs Childern of affectees of the Attabad Lake Hunza.

Care and Welfare of IDPS of Swat and South Waziristan

The medical & relief teams of the society rose to the occasion and provided all type of help to the IDPs of Swat, Malakand & South Waziristan. The relief operations were stared during the 2nd week of May 2009 and still continuing (April 2010). The teams of the Society were the first to reach Buner and Swat after the military operation ended. The last visit to Swat was made on 5th Feb 2010. More than 50,000 patients have been treated so far and relief goods worth Rs.25 Million distributed among the IDPs. Lahore-Swat maternity Home established for the 25% pregnant women among the IDPs in Takhtbahi, Mardan, Khyber Pukhtoon khwa is still working and providing medical help to the poor and needy women and children. Hundreds of IDPs women gave birth to their babies at the centre. First baby born at the centre in June 2009 was named as Muhammad Musafir (the travelers) Khan.

Update on Care and Welfare Activities of Customs Health Care Society for IDPs of North Waziristan in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtoon Khwa

Provision of immediate medical and relief supplies to the IDPs of North Waziristan was the main objective of the care and welfare team of Customs Health Care Society (CHCS). Seeing this emergent need, Customs Health Care Society first of all established a medical clinic in Miryan, Bannu which is located only one kilometer away from border of North Waziristan. This clinic has been provided medical facilities to the IDPs as well as the local population since 1st June, 2014. Besides this, the medical team of (CHCS) was immediately rushed to Bannu with ambulance, mobile hospital and relief goods to help the IDPs.

The details of medical and relief work so far undertaken by the teams of the Customs Health Care Society (CHCS) in Bannu for the IDPs of North Waziristan is given as under:-

  • i) Establishment of Two clinics / maternity home in Miryan, Bannu.
  • Mobile Medical and Relief Camps.
  • Treatment of 35,000 patients.
  • Distribution of Relief goods (food items, clothes, mosquitoes nets, water coolers, plastic sheets 2,000 gifts packs for children, etc.) worth 10 millions of rupees.
  • Arrangement of the water supply in IDPs camps.
  • Ramzan Ration Package for 2,000 families.
  • Distribution of Eid Gifts, new cloths and shoes among IDPs.
  • Provision of 500 Solar Energy and battery fitted fans in order to combat scorching heat and load shedding.
  • Celebration of Eid with IDPs and distribution of sweets. Eid Mela and Eid Daster Khwan for IDPs in Bannu.
  • Celebration of Independence Day with IDPs.

  • It is my proud privilege to inform you that care and welfare teams of Customs Health Care Society (CHCS) has once again taken the lead to reach the flood affected areas of Punjab and are actively taking part in relief and rescue operations for the flood affected people.

Rescue, Relief & Rehabilitation of Earthquake Victims of Awaran, Baluchistan by Customs Health Care Society, Lahore

(24 September 2013 - February, 2014)

It gives me immense pleasure to inform you that the care and welfare teams of Customs Health Care Society (CHCS) under the supervision of the undersigned have once again taken the lead to reach the earthquake affected areas of Awaran, Baluchistan immediately after 24 September earthquake and at present are fully engaged in the relief and rehabilitation work for the earthquake affectees there. The detail of the relief work undertaken by CHCS in Awaran, Baluchistan is given as under:- i) Establishment of Tent Villages, in Malar, Awaran, immediately after the earthquake. ii) Supply of food items, clothes, Tarpaulins, mosquito nets and kitchen ware to 2,000 families. iii) Medical and Relief Camps and establishment of a small dispensary in Malar, Awarn. Treatment of 10,000 patients. iv) Sacrifice of goats and distribution of meat among the affectees. v) Distribution of ladies shawls, clothes, shoes, jackets, suits and Eid Gifts among the earthquake victims. vi) Start of Reconstruction of Mosques and one room houses for the shelter less earthquake victims. vii) Preparation of 4000 Quilts by a sister organization (Kawish Welfare Trust) and their subsequent distribution. 2. As the relief activities are continuing, rehabilitation work has already been started in Malar, Awaran. As a first step, construction of two completely demolished mosques has been completed. Under Apna-Ghar Housing Project in the earthquake affected areas 50 one room houses has been constucted will be constructed for the earthquake victims. CHCS has already been able to build more than 550 houses for the flood affectees throughout Pakistan. The Welfare activities of CHCS are being patronized and sponsored by the philanthropists and Allah fearing people like from Pakistan and Abroad.

Update on Apna Ghar Housing Project for Flood Affected People of Punjab

  1. Under this project new one-room houses are being built for the flood-affected people of Punjab. In the first phase of the project, the flood-affected area of 18-Hazari has been selected where at the end of the year 2014 a colony of 50 houses has already been completed. The houses after completion have been handed over to the affected families where they are happily living.

  3. Moreover, the demolished mosques are also being rebuilt. One mosque in 18-Hazari and one in Muzzafargarhhas been completed. It is pertinent to mention here that the Customs Health Care Society underAPNA GHAR HOUSING PROJECThas already built more than 660 houses for the earthquake affected people of Ziarat (2008), Awaran (2013) in Baluchistan and flood affected people of Noshera, Charsada, Behrin Swat, Peshawar in Khyber PakhtoonKhwa (2014), Badin in Sindh (2012) and Muzzafargarh in Punjab (2010).

Construction Of Mosques

The Customs HealthCare Society has also taken the lead to build Mosques in different disaster hit areas of Pakistan. In this regard more than 30 demolished Mosques in Punjab Sindh and Balochistan have been rebuilt. One of the Mosques is 500 years old historical Mosque in Noshehra (KPK) which was completed washed away by the 2010 Flash Floods. The Mosques has been Beautifully rebuilt at the bank of river Kable with a cost of 5 million rupees the major part of which was donated by Ruler of Sharjah.

The manifold activities of the Society are being sponsored by philanthropists and God fearing people. The society looks upto other public-spirited affluent men and women for making generous contributions towards alleviating the sufferings of their less fortunate brethren. Seeing is believing. We would therefore suggest that if these public spirited people can spare some of their precious time, their visit would be gratifying for us because they would be able to observe for themselves the working of the Society and the hospital. If they are satisfied, they may then support the Society by providing medicines, equipments, cash or cheques drawn in favour of Health Care Society Charity Hospital.

CHCS Serving the Humanity in Distress under the Supervision of Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah

Customs Health Care Society (CHCS) is an NGO duly recognized and approved by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Government of Pakistan. Established by Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah in 1998 as a non-profit organization.

 

The care and welfare teams of Customs Health Care Society (CHCS) remained under the direct supervision of Dr. Asif Mahmood Jah busy providing relief to the Earthquake / Flood affected people of Awaran, Baluchistan, and Punjab during the year 2014 and up to 21st April 2015. However, the main focus remained on the care and welfare of IDPs of North Waziristan and providing relief to the drought stricken people of Thar.

CHCS Objective

The main objective of the CHCS is to provide quality medical care to the poor and needy patients in order to alleviate their pains and miseries. More than 150,000 patients were successfully treated during the year and upto 21st April 2015 at main Charity Hospital of the society and 13 other clinics throughout Pakistan.

Educational Institutes

Currently, 08 schools are being run by CHCS. The schools run by the CHCS at BabooSaboo, Lahore, 18-Hazari Jhang,MahmoodKotMuzzafargarh in PunjabDheriKhel, Noshehra and Bahrain, Swat in KPK and one in Thar, Sindh are providing quality education to the hundreds poor and non-affording students belonging to poor families.

Community Services

The community Centers of CHCS in Lahore, Muzzafargarh, Swat, Nowshera, Mardan, Sargodha, and Tharparkar are imparting technical training (Sewing and stitching) as well computer knowledge to the students in general and girls and women in particular.
